#30: Gems vs. IceHawks

Last evening Greg and I had the opportunity again to call play by play and goof off a bit during Wednesday dollar-beer night. Between cutting up, the Dayton Gems suffered from turnover after turnover in their 4-1 loss to the Port Huron IceHawks.
Dayton hockey fans fear not, the Gems have several players coming off of the Injured Reserve list this week and next and have also enlisted the assistance of a new right wing, Justin McCutcheon.

Dayton Gems ‘giving up their wallet’

I had the opportunity to interview Dayton Gems Coach John Marks and ask him a few questions following their 4-1 loss to the Port Huron IceHawks who currently are in second place in the IHL.

In the interview Coach Marks calmly explains that the team must become consistent, and must not allow turnovers to occur. In the background you can hear David DiCenzo sports contributor for the Dayton Daily News. You can read his article here: http://www.daytondailynews.com/dayton-sports/hockey/gems-coach-laments-miscues-in-loss-503221.html

Port Huron scored late in the 1st period. The Icehawks proceeded to put 2 more goals in the net in the 2nd. in the 3rd the Gems put their only point on the board when Tim Hartung scored with assists from Corey Couturier and Mike Vaskivuo. With only 27 seconds left in the game Port Huron found the Gems empty net. The Gems are now 16-19-3-1 and struggling to compete for the 4th position in the league to gain entrance to the playoffs.
